THE END OF STEAM

WAS IT REALLY ALL OF 40 YEARS AGO?

Alan Castle, wishes to thank all those who have responded to his recent appeals for information in connection with his plans to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the End of Steam on British Railways, through a series of articles he has been writing for Heritage Railway Magazine. An item dealing with the recent re-union of 10F Rose Grove footplatemen, has already appeared in the April Edition and a major feature all about the end of steam on the "Belfast Boat Express", appears in the May issue.

Indeed, such has been the interest shown in his research, that Alan has also written 132-page book entitled "Steam - The Grand Finale", which is probably the most comprehensive account ever written of the last months of B.R. steam. Containing much factual information and many previously unpublished photographs, it is currently expected to go on sale on WH Smith bookstalls in mid to late June 2008.

Finally, attempts are currently being made to set up a 10D/24C website. This will depend on the interest shown. Anyone interested is invited to contact
